Managed IT services: buyer questions
What are managed IT services?
Managed IT services means an external team takes ongoing responsibility for your applications, cloud and support desk for a fixed monthly fee, instead of you hiring and managing that capability in-house. Skillorix covers monitoring, incident response, patching, releases, cloud operations, reporting and second and third line support.
Do you work with London and UK-based companies?
Yes. Most of our clients are in London and the wider UK, with others in Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland, France and Spain. Our engineers work to European hours with a daily overlap for standups, incidents and releases, and all reporting is in English.
How much do managed IT services cost in the UK?
A single in-house mid-level engineer in the UK typically costs GBP 55,000 to 75,000 a year plus employer costs, and still cannot cover holidays or out-of-hours incidents. A Skillorix retainer is a fixed monthly fee scoped to your stack, ticket volume and response targets, quoted in writing before any work starts.
Are you GDPR compliant as a non-EU supplier?
We work to GDPR requirements as a processor: signed DPAs, Standard Contractual Clauses where transfers apply, least-privilege and named access, EU or UK data residency where your stack requires it, no unnecessary copies of production data, and access logged and revoked at the end of an engagement.
How do UK IT outsourcing companies compare to an offshore partner like Skillorix?
UK managed service providers give you local presence at UK rates, usually with junior engineers on the front line. Skillorix gives you founder-led senior engineering at offshore cost, with European hours overlap and UK contracting terms. Many clients keep a small UK team for stakeholder-facing work and use us for engineering depth.
Can you take over support from our current IT provider?
Yes. Transition typically takes two to four weeks: discovery on your codebase and infrastructure, runbook capture, agreed response targets, a shadowing period with the outgoing provider, then primary ownership. We document everything as we go, so you are never locked in.
What response times do you offer?
Standard retainers cover business-hours response with a one hour target on critical incidents and same business day on everything else. Extended and out-of-hours cover is available where your product needs it, agreed in writing as part of the retainer.
